About

Sarah Mitchell, founder of Modern Gingham

Hey There, I’m Sarah

Welcome to Modern Gingham! I’m Sarah Mitchell, a Colorado girl through and through. I grew up along the Front Range, where weekend mornings meant farmers market runs and weeknight dinners were built around whatever looked good at the stand that day. Food has always been how I connect with people and places, and that hasn’t changed one bit.

Why I Started This Blog

After years of texting friends restaurant recommendations, swapping recipes over coffee, and dragging anyone who’d listen to the newest spot in RiNo or a hidden patio in Old Town, I figured it was time to put it all in one place. Modern Gingham is my corner of the internet where I share the recipes I actually cook on weeknights, the Denver restaurants worth the wait, and the Colorado ingredients that make everything taste better.

What’s With the Name?

Gingham is one of those patterns that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time, like a classic picnic blanket at a modern rooftop dinner. That’s the vibe I’m going for here: approachable food with a little personality. Nothing fussy, nothing pretentious, just real food and honest recommendations from someone who genuinely loves eating her way through Colorado.

What You’ll Find Here

I write about what I know and what I love. That means seasonal recipes using Colorado produce, honest reviews of Denver’s ever-changing restaurant scene, guides to the best farmers markets along the Front Range, and the occasional deep dive into a cooking technique that changed my life. I’m especially drawn to the intersection of comfort food and fresh, local ingredients.

A Few of My Favorites

If you’re looking for a starting point, the Cherry Creek Farmers Market is my happy place every Saturday from May through October. For dinner out, I’m a sucker for anything on Larimer Square or a low-key taco spot in the Highlands. And in my own kitchen, you’ll usually find me roasting Palisade peaches, experimenting with green chile, or perfecting a sourdough loaf.

Let’s Connect

I’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s a restaurant tip, a recipe question, or just a hello, don’t be a stranger. Drop me a line at [email protected] or find me on social media. This whole thing is more fun when it’s a conversation.
